1. Summary
1.1 The following decision is sought:
That the attached Project Appraisal for implementation of a Safer Routes to School scheme in the vicinity of Hurstbourne Tarrant CE Primary School, at an estimated cost of 120,000, be approved, subject to an amendment being made to the Environment Capital Programme.
2. Reason
2.1 This decision supports Aims 2 and 4 (Stewardship of the Environment and Building Strong and Safe Communities) of the Corporate Strategy by improving conditions for pedestrians, particularly those on the journey to school, thus providing a safe alternative to the motor vehicle for such journeys.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 A basic scheme was considered without the use of sympathetic materials. However this was rejected on the basis of the scheme being unsympathetic in a heritage and conservation area. The additional cost of using more sympathetic materials is approximately £20,000 and covers the cost of natural stone setts and countryside kerbing.
4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.
5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - Not applicable.
6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - Not applicable.
