1. This is an interim report on the work carried out by the Panel during the course of its three meetings held so far. Another meeting was held on 25 November.

2. The Panel met in September and agreed the specific areas which they wished to cover. They then had two informal meetings in October in which they received evidence from the Head of IT Services and Members of his Management Team on the following aspects:

· Emergency Planning and Business Continuity


· Hampshire Public Service Network (HPSN)


· Geographic Information Systems (GIS)


· Customer relationship management and call centres


· SAP


· Desk Top support


· Benchmarking


· Mobile Working


· Forward Plan for IT Projects


· Staff recruitment/retention


· Structure of ICT in the organisation


They also received evidence from staff in the Adult Social Care Department on the SWIFT system and mobile working.

3. At their meeting on 25 November the Panel received evidence from the Head of EDICT, the IT system supporting schools and the Children's Services Department.

4. Notes setting out the main evidence gathered so far can be found in the appendices to this report.

5. It now remains for the Panel to evaluate all the information they have gained and to put forward any recommendations they may wish to make to the next meeting of the Committee. Key themes which have emerged so far are emergency planning and business continuity; the need to provide a seamless service for the public by working across boundaries, between services, between local authorities and within the public sector generally; and the need for cost effectiveness and financial savings.

RECOMMENDATION:

That this report be noted.
