1. Summary

1.1 The following decisions are sought:

(a) That the authority given to the County Education Officer by the former Education Committee at its meeting of 23 November 1999, enabling the County Education Officer, following consultation with the Chairman of the Committee, to nominate persons to serve on the corporations of Further Education Colleges in Hampshire, be rescinded.


(b) That the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services appoints Councillor F. Allgood to serve as a governor on South Downs College, Waterlooville.

1 Reason

1.1 The former Education Committee on 23 November 1999 passed a resolution as follows, "That the County Education Officer, following consultation with the Chairman of the Committee be authorised to make future nominations of persons to serve on the corporations of Further Education Colleges".

1.2 After consultation with the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services and the Executive Member for Education it is now felt appropriate to rescind the resolution with the effect that the function of nominating persons to fill such vacancies revert to the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services. This proposal meets with the approval of the Director of Children's Services.

1.3 The Executive Lead Member for Children's Services is asked to fill a governor vacancy on the South Downs College at Waterlooville. This is following the death of Councillor Bill Wheeler.

Not to rescind the former Education Committee resolution on this matter.
