1. Summary

1.1 The following decisions are sought:

(i) That approval be given to continue supporting the employment of a New Forest Transport Strategy Officer for the period July 2006-July 2009, subject to agreement on revised funding arrangements and priorities for the post, in line with the policy framework set out in the Second Hampshire Local Transport Plan.

(ii) That the County Council's contribution be limited to a maximum of £18,500 per annum (plus inflation) within the context of the partnership set out in the attached report.

2. Reason

2.1 This decision supports Aim 2 (Stewardship of the Environment) of the Corporate Strategy by supporting and reinforcing partnerships to develop strategies and deliver a range of transport alternatives in the New Forest area for the benefit of the wider community.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 The option of discontinuing funding was considered but is not recommended as it would significantly weaken partnership working in the New Forest. The option of the County Council fully funding the post was considered and rejected because it would offer poor value for money, given the opportunity to attract external partnership funding.
