Community First East Hampshire

Community Learning Project - Commencing April 2006

Summary of the project

Individuals and organisations in East Hampshire require access to ICT facilities, training and support to build the capacity of groups to enable them to provide an effective service; for leisure and family learning, access to internet information and increasingly e-government services. This project will increase access to ICT provision, training and support for communities in East Hampshire through an audit of existing facilities, identifying levels of training and support needs and seeking to meet them. The project supports targets in the Hampshire LSP plans and East Hampshire's Community Strategy priorities, ie; Everyone has access to services, facilities and workplaces and Communities are happy with their towns and village centres.

Resources required

Liz Moore, the Training and Resources Coordinator at Community First has extensive learning experience and is taking an active role in the Community Learning Forum. She has a `Train the Trainer' qualification through the Open College Network and is training as a Suzy Lamplugh trainer on lone working issues. Community First has over 4 years experience of providing customised and cost effective training for the voluntary and community sector and has built up a high level of expertise.

Geographical area

The project will initially work in the central area of East Hampshire, spreading to the North East, South and North West areas.

This project will:

    · Audit and map existing community ICT resources, both static and mobile

    · Collate information about training opportunities (and their standard) through courses and e-learning, including progression groups

    · Identify ICT community learning and support needs of voluntary/community groups and individuals in communities

    · Provide training in response to the identified needs

    · Build capacity in non traditional areas rather than simply working with traditional contacts

    · Research funding opportunities which would give the project a sustainable future

    · Encourage voluntary/community groups to take a greater role in community planning through the Community Partnership

    · It will also

¬ Take account of equality and diversity issues, the rural nature of East Hampshire and the accessibility of the provision in terms of geography, opening times, physical accessibility

¬ Link to existing information from eg, Parish Plans, Market Town Health checks

¬ Provide a `friendly face' for new learners to contact
