STRATEGY FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL PROVISION TO THE NORTH AND EAST OF ANDOVER
1. The Executive Member for Education has given authority to consult on a strategy for primary school provision to the north and east of Andover. The Andover town area is currently served by 15 primary schools, four special schools and one education centre at Cricklade College catering mainly for excluded pupils. The overall number of children in the area is due to increase over the coming years as a result of proposed new housing and other developments. However, in line with county wide trends, this increase is expected to be paralleled by a decline in the number of primary aged children in the more established housing developments in the north and east of Andover.
2. Following a full appraisal of the present and likely future position, the Executive Member has given authority for local consultations to take place on proposals to seek to provide an improved pattern of primary school provision and investment in the local community of Andover. The Executive Member has made clear that any viable alternative options which may come forward during local consultations will be welcomed and further consulted upon.
3. The above decision supports aims 1 and 4 of the Corporate Strategy.
