LOCAL POLICING SUMMARIES

1. Under Section 157 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, every police authority has a new duty to produce a Local Policing Summary which is to be delivered to all council tax payers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight as soon as possible after the end of each financial year, commencing April 2006. In accordance with Home Office guidance, the new publication will include information about how well the Constabulary is performing, who is in charge, how the service can best be accessed, and what priorities have been set and why.

2. The Authority is aware of the considerable cost implications for a Policing Summary to be produced and distributed to all households on an annual basis and has investigated alternative methods of distribution. It has been agreed, therefore, that the Authority will insert two pages of information in each of the Council publications produced by Southampton City Council, Portsmouth City Council, the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council which are delivered by them to residents in their respective areas.

3. In addition to using the Council publications the Local Policing Summary will be available on the Authority's website and information about the availability of the publication will be included in the precept notice delivered to every household in the two counties in February/March.
