SACRE Development Plan

1. Summary

1.1 This report presents the Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) development plan (Appendix 1).

1.2 This paper supports Aim 1 of the Corporate Strategy (maximising life opportunities) and Aim 4 of the Corporate Strategy (building strong and safe communities). The development plan addresses the future priorities of SACRE in order to ensure its effectiveness.

2. Background

2.1 The SACRE self-evaluation sub-group completed its self evaluation of SACREs activities in Autumn 2005. This was presented to SACRE who asked the Local Authority (LA) to present a development plan based on the self evaluation sub-groups The development plan (Appendix 1) constitutes those recommendations approved recommendations, as approved by SACRE.

2.2 The development plan (Appendix 1) constitutes those recommendations approved by SACRE identified according to SACREs main responsibilities: monitoring the quality and standards of religious education, monitoring and supporting schools in relation to statutory requirements for all pupils for religious education and collective worship, addressing the broader agenda of inclusion and diversity.

2.3 The development plan takes account of changes within the new Ofsted framework for inspection based on school self evaluation and the absence of regular subject inspections that entails.

3. Financial Implications

£50, 000 to support a Youth Inter-Faith Forum for five years which has, in principle, been agreed by Hampshire County Council. The majority of this amount will be used to ensure a coordinator is appointed. Part of the coordinator's role will be to secure outside finding to mitigate against this cost.
