1.1 |
The following decisions are sought: | |
That approval be given: | ||
i) |
to the sale of the former Alton Library site comprising 0.08 ha (0.2 ac) to the preferred purchaser in consideration of £600,000, subject to contract; and | |
ii) |
for negotiations to be held with the selected developer to secure further design improvements to the proposed scheme of development and the grant of detailed planning consent. | |
iii) |
to authorise the Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services (Head of Estates) to settle detailed terms and conditions. | |

Reason | |
2.1 |
Following the re-marketing of the former Alton Library site one company has submitted the best overall proposal for the redevelopment of the site, combining a high quality design solution that accords with the County Council's Development Brief accompanied by a competitive and well considered financial offer. | |

This decision supports the following Aims of the Corporate Strategy | |
Aim 1 - Maximising life opportunities by contributing towards the Jewry Street Cultural Centre redevelopment proposals | ||
Aim 2 - Stewardship of the environment by ensuring appropriate development within Alton Town Centre and Conservation Area | ||
Aim 5 - Improving services by contributing to continued and enhanced Library facilities in the centre of Winchester. | ||
