Hampshire County Youth Council
Over the last months the youth council has been as busy as ever, retaining it's membership and strengthening the work it carries out.
In October, fifteen members of the CYC travelled to Poland to support a group from the Roskosz region in setting up a Regional Youth Forum. The trip was an overwhelming success with the members meeting the Major from the Gmina Authority. A full report is available on request.
Three members of HCYC are participating in this years `Mind the Gap' youth service training course.
Also in October, HCYC took part in the Youth Matters Consultation and attended the Youth Matters Conference, in Southampton where the chair and PR Officer sat on a panel with John Coughlan and John Denham MP, taking questions from the audience.
During that week three members of HCYC were invited to Thornhill in Southampton to do a presentation on setting up a youth council to young people and community members. The presentation was successful and one member is now undertaking his `Mind the Gap' work placement with the newly formed youth council.
Finally in October three members of the CYC took part in the Outward Bound taster day at Netley Police HQ. They are awaiting the results to see if they have made it to the next round.
In November, three members of HCYC travelled to Brussels to a European Conference. The members met with John Coughlan whilst on their trip and challenged him over the UN Rights of the Child. John has arranged for the Vice chair of HCYC to shadow him for a day and the vice chair will arrange a day for John to shadow her.
In December, the youth council organised a `Winter Wonderland' to celebrate Christmas whilst promoting Fair-trade and healthy lifestyles. This event took place in Costello Technology College in Basingstoke on Saturday 17th after a day's training which had taken place for the representatives in Winchester.
In January, three members met with the County Inspector for RE and the County Youth Officer to start the planning process for a Hampshire Inter-Faith Youth Forum.
We were delighted to welcome four county councillors to the January meeting as a direct result of the MYPs presentation to cabinet the month before.
Councillors consulted with members on a wide range of issues before announcing that they would like to give the youth council the opportunity to `spend' the County Councils budget in the Autumn.
