Dear Sir

CONSULTATION ON THE PROPOSED NEW VOLUNTARY AIDED PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR THE WHITELEY AREA

I refer to the recent Hampshire County Council and Portsmouth Diocesan Board of Education consultation on the proposed new voluntary aided primary school for the Whiteley area. The consultation was considered by the Borough Council's Executive on 6 February 2006.

The Executive decided:

    (a) That Hampshire County Council and Portsmouth Diocesan Board be informed that the Borough Council supports the provision of a new primary school in Whiteley and supports the proposed location of the school for the reasons set out in paragraph 10 of the Executive Briefing Paper, contained in the report.

    (b) That Winchester City Council be requested to clarify the current position on the proposed provision of a skate park facility on this site as the Borough Council strongly considers that the scheme should be placed on hold as it could be prejudicial to the support for the provision of a new primary school on the site for which the support of the City Council is considered essential; and that Winchester City Council be urged to proceed with the sale of the land required for the proposed school site (adjoining the Meadowside Centre) to the County Council, in order that the development may proceed.

I enclose a copy of the Executive Report and the Record of Executive Decision which is subject to the Council's call-in procedure.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Burt
