The Alive and Kicking Community Event is organised every two years to allow voluntary and community groups to showcase/demonstrate their activities and support services. This year we want to encourage the groups, where possible, to provide a more interactive approach to their demonstrations and to involve other members of the community in their activities.

Thus the money will be used to support the groups in producing publicity and display materials and resources for use in their demonstrations and other activities (e.g. art, writing and sewing materials, clay, flowers etc)

The event will take place on Saturday 8^th July and the money will be allocated to the participating groups in May / June of 2006.

How does this bid support the targets within the Community Strategy?

The event is predominantly an opportunity for local

voluntary and community groups and organisations to demonstrate their contribution to improving the quality of life in Gosport. It will also be used to promote volunteering and recruit volunteers. As such, the event underpins key principles of the Community Strategy: - Seeking to achieve sustainable development, promoting partnership working and sharing information.

Overall funding arrangements

The total cost of the event is estimated to be £13,000. Gosport Borough Council will underwrite the main costs (hire of equipment, publicity and support for the community carnival and staff input) for Alive and Kicking 2006. Other contributions (funding and in kind) are being sought from the Hampshire Constabulary, the East Hants, Fareham & Gosport PCT, HCC Youth Service, St Vincent College and Gosport Voluntary Action .The amount / type of these contributions will be confirmed as soon as the details of the event have been agreed.
