The funding sought is to extend the contract for the project officer responsible for co-ordinating the County Council's input into the RETIS network and other social inclusion activities.

The funding would be for an extension of a further 6 months to October 2006. It has been agreed that a 3 way spilt between Children's Services, P&R Grant budget and the Community Strategy Budget

RETIS (European Trans-Regional Network for Social Inclusion) is a network of European local authorities working to identify and transfer good practice in integrating social inclusion in local services and strategy, and promoting social inclusions in policy development at all levels. The network is broad-based but with a primary focus on children and families, older people, asylum seekers, people with disabilities and the homeless.

RETIS also has both a lobbying and a consultative role within the European Commission and member states on the development of social inclusion policies and programmes and the dissemination of associated resources.

The funding will support the continued appointment from April 2006- October 2006, after this the post will be reviewed.

How does this bid support the targets within the Community Strategy?

The project supports the theme of strong and safe communities within the Community Strategy and the underpinning principle of social inclusion.

Funding for attendance at conferences is funded by the EC through RETIS.
