2. The Committee has responded to the Department of Health on the consultation on Commissioning a Patient Led NHS recommending that there should be two Strategic Health Authorities covering Southeast England, a single Primary Care Trust for Hampshire, excluding the Cities of Portsmouth and Southampton and the Hampshire Ambulance Service should remain as it currently is. The Committee also highlighted the need for:
Improved partnership working across the NHS and local authorities.
Commissioning arrangements that are responsive to local needs and accountable to local communities.
Clarity about the delivery of public health and the health improvement agenda.
Business continuity and leadership during the transition.
Capacity and capability and the need for a swift move to the new structures with appointments confirmed as quickly as possible.
3. This supports aims 1, 4 and 5 of the Corporate Strategy by enabling opportunities to be maximised and ensuring that health services continue to be improved alongside building strong and safe communities.
