Proposed Whiteley Primary School

Summary

1.1

The following decision is sought:

i)

That, in the event that Winchester City Council at its Council meeting on the 19 July 2006 confirms the recommendations of its Cabinet to refuse to dispose of the land for a school, the proposed Whiteley Primary School project be aborted.

Reasons

2.1

Winchester City Council's decision to retain land in its ownership which the County Council had identified as being suitable to provide a new primary school and church to serve Whiteley in partnership with the Portsmouth Church of England Diocese and the local church community.

2.2

This decision supports the following Aims of the Corporate Strategy

Aim 1 - Maximising life opportunities by developing proposals for the most appropriate education provision

Aim 4 - Building strong and safe communities by taking full account of community issues when deciding how best to meet the demand for additional school places

Aim 5 - Improving services by providing schools closer to locations with poor access to existing facilities

Alternative sites for the new Primary School have been considered but rejected as unsuitable.
