The following decision is sought: |

|
i) |
That, in the event that Winchester City Council at its Council meeting on the 19 July 2006 confirms the recommendations of its Cabinet to refuse to dispose of the land for a school, the proposed Whiteley Primary School project be aborted. |
|
|

Reasons |
|
|
2.1 |
Winchester City Council's decision to retain land in its ownership which the County Council had identified as being suitable to provide a new primary school and church to serve Whiteley in partnership with the Portsmouth Church of England Diocese and the local church community. |
|
|
2.2 |
This decision supports the following Aims of the Corporate Strategy |

|
Aim 1 - Maximising life opportunities by developing proposals for the most appropriate education provision |
|
|
|
Aim 4 - Building strong and safe communities by taking full account of community issues when deciding how best to meet the demand for additional school places |

Aim 5 - Improving services by providing schools closer to locations with poor access to existing facilities |
