1. Summary

1.1. The following decisions are sought:

That Councillor J. K. Glen be appointed as the County Council's representative to serve on the following:

Council of Partners for North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

Partnership Panel for the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

2. Reason

2.1. To ensure that the County Council is fully represented at senior elected member level in the development of these partnership working arrangements for both AONB's. They comprise constituent local authorities in the areas concerned, government agencies and other organisations involved with the social, economic and environmental interests of the AONB areas. At present Hampshire is the only local authority without member representation. The local authorities and the Countryside Agency are the funding partners and in both cases a memorandum of agreement between the partners is in place. This enables the local authorities to secure funding from other government bodies for the AONB teams and associated costs; and the production, promotion and delivery of land management plans.

2.2. The County Council's participation in the partnerships would support Aim 2 of the Corporate Strategy (stewardship of the Environment).

2.3. As this is a first time appointment the Leader of the Council has been consulted and agrees with both appointments.

3. Other Options considered and rejected

3.1. The County Council not being represented, which would lead to a loss of influence and possibly loss of funding.

4.1. Councillor Glen is both decision maker and the proposed appointee.
