Summary

1.1

The following decision is sought:

The Executive Member (Recreation & Heritage) and the Buildings, Land and Procurement Panel advise the Executive Member (Policy & Resources) that:

(a)

Approval be given to the strategy set out in the report for dealing with the Treadgolds Museum complex in Portsmouth whereby the two ancillary buildings would be sold and the receipts applied to the partnership project for the restoration and reoccupation of the main Treadgolds building;

(b)

The Director of Property, Business & Regulatory Services (Head of Estates) be authorised to settle detailed terms and conditions for the sale and transfer of property identified in the report

(c)

In the event of material slippage in the project timetable, a further report be presented to Members.

Reason(s)

2.1

These decisions support the following Aims of the Corporate Strategy

Aim 1 - Maximising life opportunities through re-opening the Treadgolds exhibit to members of the public and providing a series of craft workshops for use by local designers and artists

Aim 2 - Stewardship of the environment by securing the restoration and re-use of an important collection of listed buildings

Aim 3 - Achieving economic prosperity through the provision of craft workshops and offices to meet local needs

Aim 4 - Building strong and safe communities through the refurbishment and re-occupation of currently dilapidated and vulnerable properties

Other options considered and rejected

A range of options have been considered, from complete renovation of all buildings and upgrading the museum exhibit through to placing the collection in store and selling all buildings for alternative uses.
