Applemore College, Dibden Purlieu - Closure of sixth form
Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 28(2) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 that The Governing Body of Applemore College, Roman Road, Dibden Purlieu, Southampton, Hampshire, SO45 4RQ intend to make a prescribed alteration to the college, by changing the age range so that the college ceases to provide sixth form education from 31 July 2008.
The current age range of the college is 11 years to 19 years.
The proposed age range will be 11 years to 16 years.
If this proposal is approved, the final group of sixth form students will be admitted in September 2006 and may continue their studies until July 2008.
Sixth Form courses for students seeking them from September 2007 will be available at Totton College, Brockenhurst College, Tauntons College, Hardley Sixth Form Centre and Southampton City College. Good transport is available to all these alternative colleges and sixth forms.
The number of pupils to be admitted to the college at age 11 from 1 September 2008 and subsequent years will be 155 (including 5 pupils with statements of special educational needs admitted to specialist provision).
There will be no need to increase places at other schools or colleges as a consequence of this proposal.
This proposal will be implemented by the governing body.
Within six weeks after the date of publication of these proposals, any person may object to or make comments on the proposals by sending the representations to Mrs Karen Widdowson, Secretary to the School Organisation Committee, Chief Executive's Department, The Castle, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9UJ, to arrive no later than 5.00pm on 16 August 2006.
