KINGS COPSE PRIMARY SCHOOL, HEDGE END

 

ESTABLISHMENT OF A UNIT FOR PUPILS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT

  

1.      Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 28(1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, that Hampshire County Council, being the Local Education Authority, intends to make a prescribed alteration to Kings Copse Primary School, Kings Copse Road, Hedge End SO30 0PQ, by establishing a unit for children with visual impairment, with effect from 1 September 2007.

 

2.      In order to achieve this intention, it is proposed to establish resourced provision at the school for children with visual impairment, within the new school buildings that are to built on part of the existing school site. This will cater for a maximum of ten pupils, who will be in the school's normal age range of 4-11, and will open at the start of the Autumn Term 2007. The total number of pupils to be admitted to the school at the age of 4+ in the school year 2007/08 will be based on an admission number of 30. This is lower than the number of 38 which is indicated by the current net capacity of the school, but will be the number indicated by the net capacity of the school when the new buildings are completed .

 

3.       Any person may object to, or comment on, these proposals within the period of six weeks from the date of publication of this notice. Objections or comments should be in writing and addressed to Ian Lawson, Strategic Planning Unit, Children's Services Department, Hampshire County Council, The Castle, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8UG to arrive no later than 5 pm on 13 October 2005. Any objections or comments received, and not subsequently withdrawn in writing, together with the authority's observations on them, will be submitted to the School Organisation Committee for Hampshire within one month after the closing date for representations.

NOTE:

 

This proposal forms part of a review of primary school provision in the Hedge End area, and is intended to increase opportunities for inclusion within mainstream education, where this is appropriate to the needs of the individual pupil. This review includes the provision of new buildings for Kings Copse Primary School on part of the school site. The new school buildings will be designed to be fully accessible to children with disabilities, including visual impairment, and will incorporate a resource base to facilitate their education in a mainstream school environment.
