Cabinet / Leader
PART II
COMBINED HEAT AND POWER (CHP) AND BIODIESEL
On 19 July 2006 the Executive Member for Policy and Resources considered a detailed report on the potential advantages of using Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Biodiesel and Bio-heating oil, and the opportunities where these could be used at County Council premises.
There are a number of school campus' in Hampshire where there are opportunities to exploit CHP. One of these is Yateley and a feasibility study is currently being completed to establish the viability of the application of CHP to this site. The outcomes of the feasibility study will be considered by the Executive Member for Policy and Resources later this year.
The Executive Member for Policy and Resources also gave approval for undertaking a feasibility study for a CHP installation in the IT suite as part of the redevelopment of Ashburton Court.
In addition, further investigation is to be carried out into the viability of bio-heating oil production, in particular the technical issues involved in bio-heating oil production
and biomass for fuel; the potential for growing sufficient oil seed rape; possible partnership
and supply chain arrangements and further research by the Environment Department on the
opportunities to produce bio-heating oil in the South East.
