REPORT OF THE
EXECUTIVE MEMBER
RECREATION AND HERITAGE
PART II
EASTLEIGH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
1. The Executive Member has given approval to a grant of £19,000 to the Eastleigh Community Development Project in each of the years 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09 as part of a joint enterprise with Eastleigh Borough Council and Eastleigh Community Service to support local people in meeting the various needs of their communities.
2. The specific aims of this innovative project are to develop further the recreational, educational, social, cultural and environmental services provided by community associations in a variety of areas throughout Eastleigh Borough. It will provide help, guidance and support to local community associations in areas such as managing community facilities, communications, research, marketing and business planning. The availability of these support services will be particularly valuable as most of these local community associations rely on volunteers and do not have professional staff of their own.
3. It is hoped that outcomes of the project will include:
· Indicators whereby community associations can assess their own efficiency and effectiveness in achieving their aims
· Development of a local support framework and network to help the wide variety of organisations to work together to mutual advantage
· Improved communications, coordination and joint working.
4. The Executive Member has, therefore, commended this project as an excellent example of cooperation between the County Council, the Borough Council and local community associations with the overall aim of enhancing the range of services available to local people.
