1 Summary

The following decision is sought:

That approval be given to action taken, in consultation with the Executive Member, Policy and Resources, to finalise arrangements for the provision of legal services to the New Forest National Park Authority for the period to 31 March 2009.

2 Reasons

To comply with the Council's duty to provide the National Park Authority with such assistance as it may reasonably request for the purposes of discharging its functions, and to further develop the business of the Council's in-house Legal Practice. The arrangements will also contribute to the Corporate Strategy aim of enhancing our quality of place, by supporting the Authority in the conservation and enhancement of the New Forest National Park, and the promotion of understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

The position has been taken that assistance would only be offered if the Council's costs incurred were recovered in full. This is provided for in the arrangements.
