1. Summary
1.1 The following decision is sought:
That the Project Appraisal to implement environmental improvements to the existing pedestrian subway on Timberlake Road, Basingstoke, to be externally funded at an estimated cost of £245,000, be approved.
2. Reason
2.1 This scheme will improve the environment leading into and through the pedestrian subway with better visibility and enhanced lighting, thereby making it safer and increasing security for pedestrians of all ages.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 The provision of an at-grade Puffin controlled crossing on Timberlake Road was investigated on the same desire line as the existing subway. However due to the high volume of both pedestrian and road traffic the option was rejected as it would have caused significant queueing and delays on Timberlake Road and adjoining roads in the town centre.
4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or other Executive Member Consulted - None.
5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - None.
6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - None.
