1. Summary
1.1 The following decisions are sought:
(i) That the Project Appraisal for the provision of a new off-road shared use cycle route between Tor Way and Pulens Lane, Petersfield, to be externally funded at an estimated cost of £140,000, be approved.
(ii) That, under the powers contained in Sections 65 and 66 of the Highways Act 1980, the sections of footway identified within the proposal be formally converted to cycle tracks to permit use by cyclists and pedestrians.
2. Reason
2.1 This scheme will promote non-motorised routes to school, shops, and other local amenities, offering safer routes for pedestrians away from main roads.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 Several alternative routes were considered for cycle routes from Tor Way to Pulens Lane. These were dismissed at the feasibility stage as being either much more circuitous than the proposed route or on-road where the road in question experiences considerable on-street parking and reasonably high traffic volumes.
4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.
5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - None.
6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - None.
