1. Summary
1.1 The following decision is sought:
That the Project Appraisal for environmental improvements at Town Quay, Fareham - phase 3: Lower Quay, at an estimated cost of £205,000, including £60,000 external funding, be approved.
2. Reason
2.1 This paving and lighting improvement scheme will protect and enhance the heritage and local distinctiveness of Fareham's Town Quay Conservation Area.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 Other areas of work within the Conservation Area were considered but discounted for the following reasons:
(i) unresolved issues relating to the A32 currently make it difficult to conclude design development work in other areas; and
(ii) during consultation Lower Quay was identified by the public as a high priority.
3.2 Alternative design approaches for Lower Quay were considered but did not meet the strategic objectives and principles of the Regeneration of Older Urban Areas initiative.
