PART II

PROPOSAL FOR A JOINT COUNCIL TAX LEAFLET WITH OTHER HAMPSHIRE AUTHORITIES

On 25 September 2006, the Cabinet took the decision for the County Council to continue to be involved in a project to progress the development of a joint council tax leaflet for 2007/08 with Hampshire Police Authority, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority and Hampshire district councils. The main aim of a joint leaflet is to improve communication with council taxpayers and to reduce costs. In respect of the latter, it is expected that the County Council's share of the cost of a joint leaflet will be less than the production cost for the current format.

The project is being led by a team of communication and finance officers from the County Council, Police Authority, Fire and Rescue Authority, Test Valley Borough Council and Winchester City Council (on behalf of district councils). The majority of districts have expressed an interest in being involved with the project, thus demonstrating a willingness to work in partnership to try to communicate more effectively with the public and achieve value for money for the council taxpayer. It is hoped that all district councils will participate in this joint initiative in future years.

The next step will be to go out to tender for the printing and design work and following the introduction of the new style leaflet next year, consumer feedback will be monitored.

T. K. THORNBER, C.B.E.,
Leader.
