1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

    That the Executive Member for Children's Services supports the progress being made in Hampshire with the development of extended schools and the proposals for the future direction of this initiative.

2. Reason

2.1 The development of extended schools supports all three Corporate Strategy priorities (Hampshire safer and more secure for all ; Maximising wellbeing ; Enhancing our quality of place) by focusing on school improvement, the better co-ordination and delivery of caring services for children and families and promoting schools as centres of learning for their whole communities. It also contributes towards improving access to locally delivered health and social care services, and engaging communities and partner agencies in the planning of provision such as child care, adult learning and the community use of school facilities.

2.2 Extended services in and around schools make an essential contribution to the five Every Child Matters outcomes i.e. being healthy; staying safe; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution and achieving economic well-being.
