1. Summary
1.1 The following decision is sought:
That the Project Appraisal for the implementation of a Toucan crossing and traffic management measures at Dunley's Hill, North Warnborough, to be externally funded at an estimated cost of £250,000, be approved.
2. Reason
2.1 This scheme will improve traffic management and contribute towards road safety for cyclists and pedestrians. The Toucan crossing will particularly assist children who attend the Robert May's School and have to cross Dunley's Hill as part of their journey. Encouraging schoolchildren to either walk or cycle to school will avoid the use of vehicles on the school run, therefore reducing congestion and delays to other motorists as well as improving air quality.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 The option to do nothing was not considered acceptable as the continuing safety of pedestrians was paramount and developer funding had been taken for these purposes. There are no suitable alternatives that can be implemented within the budget available for this project.
4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.
5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - None.
6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - None
