Item 9 |
Contact: Derek Jones, ext 6987 email: [email protected]
1. Summary
1.1 The following decision is sought:
That the Project Appraisal for replacement and repair works to the wavebreak pontoon at Town Quay, Southampton used by the Hythe Ferry, at an estimated cost of £400,000, be approved.
2. Reason
2.1 This project will ensure continued operation of the ferry service between Hythe and Southampton. The decision is in line with the County Council's published Ferry Strategy.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 A number of options are being considered to provide suitable berthing facilities for the Hythe Ferry at Town Quay, Southampton in the longer term. These will continue to be pursued, but they do not address the obligation which the County Council has under the current licence agreement with Associated British Ports (signed in 1995) to maintain the section of the existing wavebreak pontoon used by the Hythe Ferry. This means that taking no action is not an acceptable option.
4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.
5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - None.
6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - None.
