Funding support to Southampton and Portsmouth Outdoor Activity Centres

Report of the Director of Recreation and Heritage

Contact: Stuart Nundy ext: 5015 e-mail: [email protected]

1. Summary

1.1 The following decisions are sought:

    i) That a combined reduction in funding of £30,000 to Southampton and Portsmouth outdoor centres be agreed and implemented from 1 April 2007.

ii) That the Outdoor Service direct support fund for individual young people be made available to students attending the City outdoor centres.

iii) That a further report be presented to the Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage to determine further funding changes in 2008/09 and beyond.

2. Reasons for the Recommendation

2.1 There is currently a major imbalance between Recreation and Heritage's support for its own directly managed outdoor centres (average 25%), and the support the County Council gives to the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton for access to their centres, whereby the County Council provides up to 79% of the cost of schools using the City centres. This report seeks to begin the process of addressing that imbalance.

The decisions support the Corporate Aim of maximising well-being.

    - Removing all funding support

4. Conflicts of interest declared by the decision maker or other Executive Member consulted

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee

6. Reasons for matter being dealt with, if urgent
