1. Summary

The following decision is sought:

That Councillor Peter Edgar be appointed as the County Council representative on the Council of Governors of the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

2. Reason

To maintain County Council representation within the community.

It is anticipated that the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust will be given Foundation Trust status in the first half of 2007. In anticipation the Trust have invited the County Council to its membership as a Governor representative. The Trust have not been specific about the background of the nominated Member apart from stating they are looking for someone who would be able to vocalise the hopes and aspirations of the County Council, whilst having the well-being of the hospital, its staff and its patients at heart. All Governors will have the opportunity to have some basic training in the ways of the NHS and in particular the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
