Review of education provision for deaf and hearing impaired children

Proposed re-organisation of resourced provision in mainstream schools

Earlier this year an extensive consultation took place on the County Council's provision for deaf and hearing impaired children. Having considered a report on the outcome of that consultation, the Executive Member for Children's Services asked for the consultation to be extended, to give further consideration to the future organisation of our resourced provision in mainstream schools.

I attach the consultation pack outlining the issues on which further views are invited. This includes the report considered by the Executive Member in October.

We hope that you will consider these issues carefully and let us have your views on the attached form. You may already have sent comments during the earlier consultation. It is not necessary to repeat or re-send those comments, as all the previous responses will be taken into account when a report is prepared on this extension to the consultation.

Response sheets should be returned by Friday, 5 January 2007.

Meetings have been arranged during the consultation period: see Appendix 6.

The outcome of the consultation will be reported to the Executive Member early in the new year.

Yours sincerely

Eric Smith
