Project Augur has been a confidential regeneration study initiated and facilitated by Hampshire County Council. Work has been underway since May 2005 with the aim of securing backing from English Partnerships, a Developer and Registered Social Landlord along with the County and District Council for a major regeneration project.

The County Council has been the enabler of progress to this decision point through its funding and recruitment of a Project Co-ordinator, its contribution towards funding the feasibility study and through leadership in bringing together the prospective partners and policy agencies.

The funding being sought is to enable the ongoing employment of the Project Co-ordinator to the end of May 2007. This will enable the leadership of Hampshire County Council to be maintained at a critical point. The key tasks will be: to reduce risk to the project at this key handover point; to ensure the County Council's interests are protected; to ensure successful handover to permanent staff and knowledge transfer; to support the communications plan including local, regional and national recognition of the central enabling and added-value role of the County Council; to facilitate the detailed work to establish the implementation plan following approvals to proceed.

Gosport Borough Council made a contribution of £5,000 towards the feasibility study and provide office accommodation for the Project Co-ordinator. The Developer made a contribution of £35,000 towards the feasibility study. All other costs have been met by Hampshire County Council including £60,000 salary costs in financial year 2006/07.
