Developing an Interfaith Youth Forum

Background:

    · National SACRE is encouraging local groups to engage in interfaith work as a way of promoting community cohesion

    · The Hampshire Youth Council is keen to develop this aspect of their work

    · The adult `Faith in Communities Network' is keen to ensure that the voice of young people of faith is encouraged, listened to and included in their work in Hampshire

Outcome:

    · A sustainable youth interfaith forum will be established with clear accountability to the Youth Council and links to SACRE and the `Faith in the Communities Network'

    · The forum agrees on a bid for NASACRE funding 2007-08 which will describe aspirations for future development

Performance Measures:

    · Youth forum established

    · Terms of reference agreed

    · NASACRE funding secured

Methodology & Approach:

    · Identify young people who wish to be involved

    · Ask for names from faith in communities network members

    · Meet with another youth interfaith group (possibly Reading)

    · Hold meeting to agree terms of reference

    · Establish how links can be made with:

    Youth Council

    SACRE

    Winchester University seminar

    Faith in Communities Network

    · Hold meeting to agree future activity and use this as a basis to develop bid to NASACRE for funds to support this work

Communication:

    · Regular updates to SACRE and Youth Council

    · Develop website in conjunction with adult forum

    · Availability of staff

    · Existing operational workloads

Milestones:

    · Completion of NASACRE bid 1 March 2007

    · Initial meeting Jan 2007

    · Approval and sign off by project group 9th March then sent to NASACRE by 23 March

    · April 2007 Winchester University seminar

    · May 2007 participate in the Hampshire Lecture with the adult forum
