Summary |
1.1 |
Cherrywood Community Primary School is located in a residential area of Farnborough, at Mayfield Road. The school dates from 1969 and has a capacity of 315 pupils (4-11 years), with 225 currently on roll. The total site area is 2.19 ha (5.42 acres). The school buildings are a mix of traditional (including an Infant Block constructed in 2004) and SCOLA construction. |
1.2 |
Pupil numbers are forecast to fall below 210 and it is therefore proposed to reduce the capacity of the school to 210 places (seven classrooms). It is planned to relocate the existing infant classes to the main school building once the associated refurbishment and reconfiguration works to facilitate the move are complete. The total estimated cost of the scheme is £313,000, excluding fees. |
1.3 |
It is proposed to use the vacated accommodation in the separate Infant Block as a children's centre, as the strategy identifies the need for a full core offer, including day care, serving this community. Further work is needed to identify any alterations required to this accommodation, but it is anticipated that works will be minimal. |
1.4 |
The scheme to amalgamate the infant and junior classes within the main school building will maximise wellbeing and enhance the quality of place by integrating all pupils within a refurbished environment and providing improved staff facilities. |
1.5 |
The Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services has progressed the design of the refurbishment and the purpose of this report is to outline the proposals and seek approval to the scheme. |

A medical room will be provided in the adjacent corridor and a new reception area will be formed from an existing office space. |
3.4 |
It is proposed to enclose the existing covered walkway across the courtyard adjacent the main school hall. The existing hall cladding will be removed and replaced with an acoustic partition, curtain walling, new insulated roof and new floor slab provided to enclose the walkway. |

The existing pedestrian/vehicular access from Mayfield Road currently serves both the Infant Block and the main school buildings. It is now proposed to reinstate the ramped pedestrian entrance into the reception area, from Mayfield Road. |
