Minor Projects - Progress Report

1. Summary

1.1 The purpose of this report is to provide an update of the progress made in implementing those schemes in the Children's Services Capital Programme with a value of between £43,000 and £216,000 (exclusive of fees).

1.2 The schemes within this report generally reflect the priorities in the Corporate Strategy by maximising the safety and accessibility of all users of the premises and enhancing the quality of place.

2. Current Position

2.1 The attached tables summarise the current position in relation to schemes funded by the Children's Service 2006/07 and 2007/08 Capital Programme including Minor Works, Security Funding, Schools Access Initiative (SAI), Specialist College Status funding, NDS Modernisation, 14-19 Agenda and Staff Workplaces budget. The tables provide details of the funding, a brief description of the works and a summary of the current position.

3. NDS Modernisation 2007/08

3.1 Brune Park Secondary School, Gosport

This scheme was originally approved by the Executive Member for Education on 14 December 2006. It is now proposed to extend the scheme to include the provision of a training kitchen as part of the food technology refurbishment works. An allocation of £70,000, excluding fees, has been made from NDS Modernisation 07/08, £60,350, excluding fees, from the 14-19 Agenda and the School is making a contribution of £86,450, from their devolved capital.

It is anticipated that the works will be procured with a framework contractor and will commence on site during June 2007, completing during August. On completion, a second phase consisting of the refurbishment an existing CDT classroom will be negotiated with the same contractor. An allocation of £56,500, excluding fees, has been made in the NDS Modernisation 2007/08 programme and the School is making a contribution of £26,100 from the devolved capital.

3.2 Hayling Secondary School

The existing sports hall is currently clad in profiled asbestos cement sheeting. An allocation of £83,000, excluding fees, has been made in the Children's Services Capital Programme 2007/08, the School is making a contribution of £83,000, excluding fees, from their devolved capital allocation, and £83,000, excluding fees, has been allocated in the NDS Condition programme 2007/08 for a programme to remove and replace the existing asbestos based cladding.

    It will be necessary for the asbestos cladding to be removed at the start of the 2007 summer holiday period it is therefore anticipated that the works to replace this cladding will be completed during October 2007.

4. Secondary Schools 14-19 Agenda 2007/08

4.1 Yateley Secondary School

      An allocation of £43,000 has been made in the Children's Services 2007/08 Capital Programme and the School is making a contribution of £50,000 from their devolved capital to fund the refurbishment of a classroom to form a classroom/trade area.

      It is proposed to negotiate the works with Nolan Davis, a framework contractor, who are currently on site undertaking security improvement works. It is anticipated that the refurbishment works will commence during April 2007 and be completed during July 2007.

      1. That the changes to the minor works programme be approved.
