1 Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

1. That the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services approves grant recommendations for 2007/08 totalling £751,748 received by the Youth Services (£151,050), Children and Families Branch (£88,627), and the Early Education and Childcare Unit (£512,071).

2. That delegated power to the Director of Children's Services for responsible officers within the Children and Families Branch (Social Care), and Early Education and Child Care Unit to approve grants to voluntary organisations up to £5,000 in accordance with The Constitution - Part 2 (Responsibility for Functions) Section 4 - Chief Officers' Delegated Authority be extended by the Executive Lead Member to the Youth Service and that such grants be reported regularly to the Executive Lead Member.

2 Reason

2.1 This decision supports the following Hampshire County Council priority:

"Making Hampshire safer and more secure for all" - by supporting organisations that provide positive activities for children and young people.

"Maximising well-being" - by supporting organisations that deliver services to children and young people or are run by children and young people or aim to help vulnerable children and young people.

2.2 The decision supports the following Aims of the Children Act:

As well as enabling voluntary organisations, grants help them to achieve the five outcomes of Every Child Matters by encouraging young people to stay safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well being.
