1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That the Executive Member for Policy and Resources approves the Project Appraisal to implement the B3058 Station Road South and Mallard Court, New Milton, at an estimated cost of £729,000.

2. Reason

2.1 In 2005/06 a Special Maintenance scheme was undertaken to reconstruct the paved footways in the northern section of Station Road, New Milton between Osborne Road and Ashley Road. The southern section, between Ashley Road and Spencer Road, is proposed to receive a similar treatment. Included in the proposal is a degree of refurbishment to Mallard Court within the northern section of Station Road, subject to funding. This decision will enable a scheme that will provide a safer and more secure environment for all, and improve the economic prosperity of local shops, markets, and businesses, enhancing the local sense of place.

2.2 The Executive Member for Environment recommends the proposal.

2.3 The Buildings, Land and Procurement Panel considered this report on 20 March 2007 and recommended the proposal.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 Following the previous works carried out in the northern section of Station Road, this proposal for the southern section of Station Road is designed to match that of the previous design laying pattern. To do nothing or to put in place a standard paved or bituminous surface to these areas would be unacceptable and detract from the objective of providing an enhanced and safer street scene environment for all and creating a sense of place.
