Use of Resources Assessment 2006/07

Summary

Attached is the Audit Commission's `Use of Resources Assessment' of the Authority as Appendix A (for Members of the Committee only). It was undertaken as part of the wider Fire and Rescue Performance Assessment 2006/07. The Assessment is considered to be a more stringent test than the auditor scored judgement made under the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) in 2005. The Authority's external auditors will be at the meeting to formally present the Assessment and to answer any questions Members may have.

The overall assessment was that the Authority is `performing well - consistently above minimum requirements'. On only one theme - `internal control' - was the Authority judged to be `performing at minimum requirements'. The issues identified on page 9 of the report (KLOE 4.1 to 4.4) will be considered by the Governance Committee at its meeting on 30 April 2007.

Work is already underway to ensure that all areas identified as needing attention, or where there is scope for improvement, are being addressed.
