Summary

Attached to this report as Appendix A (for Members of the Committee only) is the Audit Commission's national report setting out the results and key messages arising from `Fire and Rescue Performance Assessment'. The report was published on 5 April 2007.

Appendix 1 of the report provides the scores for each element of the overall Assessment: Direction of Travel, Use of Resources, and Service (Operational) Assessment and these are set against the benchmark of the 2005 Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) score. Members will note that several fire and rescue authorities are appealing their Direction of Travel scores, but from this summary it does appear that, by comparison, Hampshire is performing very well indeed and it would be reasonable to conclude that we are well within the top ten of top performing fire and rescue authorities in the country.

The outcome is a very positive one indeed and is testament to the commitment and hard work of everyone who has responded positively during a period of unprecedented change for the fire and rescue service.

The Report provides some examples of good practice which will be considered as we identify opportunities for further improvement.

The Report is available electronically on the Audit Commission's website.
