Implementation timetable

14 March 2007

· Consultation ends

1 May 2007

· The School Governance (Pupil Referral Units) (England) Regulations 2007 come into force.

1 May to 31 May 2007

· Local Authorities (LAs) must choose a constitutional model for the management committee for Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) in their area . The models are then formally adopted by the making of the Instruments of Government for the PRUs.

1 June 2007

· Instruments made and adopted for all PRUs open prior to this date.

1 June 2007 to 31 August 2007

· From 1 June 2007 elections of staff and parent members and the appointment of LA and community members can take place. All these processes have to be completed by 31 August 2007. See Appendix 2 for a summary of the membership categories.

3 September 2007

· Instrument of Governance comes into force and committee members terms of office commence.

Latest advice from the DfES suggests that all these dates may be put back by two months with an implementation date of 1 November 2007
