1. Summary
1.1 The purpose of this report is to provide an update of the progress made in implementing those Early Years Centre/Children's Centre schemes in the Children's Services Capital Programme with a value of between £43,000 and £216,000 (exclusive of fees).
1.2 The schemes within this report generally reflect the priorities in the Corporate Strategy by maximising the safety and accessibility of all users of the premises and enhancing the quality of place.
2. Current Position
2.1 The attached tables summarise the current position in relation to schemes funded by the Children's Service 2006/07 and 2007/08 Capital Programme. The tables provide details of the funding, a brief description of the works and a summary of the current position.
3. Summary of Schemes for approval
3.1 Aviary Early Years Centre, Eastleigh
An allocation of £212,000, excluding fees, has been made in the Children's Services Capital Programme 2007/08 for internal refurbishment and reconfiguration works to provide a medical and sensory room, a kitchenette, baby-changing facilities and additional storage, all within existing spaces.
Externally, the proposals include improved hard and soft outdoor play areas, the replacement of an existing entrance into the Centre with an electrically powered door and associated ramping, suitable surfacing and areas of shade and shelter for parents and children.
It is anticipated that works will commence on site during July 2007 and be completed during September 2007.
3.2 Colours Youth Centre, Hardley
An allocation of £90,000, excluding fees, has been made in the Children's Services Youth Capital fund 2007/08 for works to provide an adventure play area and multi-use games area (MUGA) within the grounds of the Youth Centre. The MUGA will be located to the south of the main building and incorporate a variety of adventure play equipment, to include safety surfacing.
It is anticipated that the works will commence on site during July 2007 and be completed during September 2007.
3.3 Children's Centre at Park Primary School, Aldershot
An allocation of £212,875, excluding fees, has been made in the Children's Service Capital Programme 2007/08 for an extension scheme to provide additional community accommodation.
The Children's Centre will be extended to form a larger, flexible community space, expanded sleep area and an additional office space, together with expanded and enhanced external play areas and additional parking spaces for staff.
It is anticipated that the proposed works will be carried out over the summer holiday 2007.
Recommendation
1. That the minor works programme be approved.
