Salterns School - staff consultation meeting
2 February 2007
Present from the Local Authority
Chris Holt - Education Officer (School Organisation and Review)
Eric Smith - Education Officer (SEN)
Sue Stares - County SEN Inspector
Present from Salterns School:
38 members of staff plus Chair and Vice Chair of Governors
Mrs N Dando - Headteacher
Start of meeting: 1.30 pm
Close of meeting: 3.00 pm
The following questions were asked and comments made:
Pupils
1. It makes more sense to link secondary age children with the provision at Oak Lodge rather than the new school on the Forest Edge site pending the secondary phase of the building programme.
2. There is a danger that the "annexe" pupils will be "second class citizens".
Procedures
3. What is the overall vision and how will things be transformed if the proposals go ahead?
Buildings
4. Will the Salterns kitchen remain operational (nb: at the moment it is necessary to produce nine different types of meals daily).
5. There will be an opportunity to co-locate partner agencies. Will spaces for this be provided in the new buildings?
Staff
6. How will the staffing structure of the new school be decided?
7. How will staff be appointed to the new structure?
8. If MLD and SLD children are to be educated under the same roof, it is important that there should be carefully programmed staff training and development.
Governance and management
9. The appointment of a new headteacher is crucial and this should be as soon as possible.
Other issues
10. Is funding for the second phase of the proposals guaranteed?
Staff were urged to respond to the consultations using the response sheet at the back of the consultation booklet and/or the Hantsweb link.
