PROPOSALS TO DEVELOP OR VARY NHS SERVICES

1. The Committee is continuing to monitor proposals for the review of the following services:

Maternity Services:


- Closure of Maternity Beds and Review of Maternity Services in Southwest Hampshire


- Maternity Services in Southeast Hampshire


South Central Strategic Health Authority Review of Community Hospitals


Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust: Mental Health Services for Older
People in the wider Southampton Area


Southeast England Strategic Health Authority Acute Service Reconfiguration - The Committee agreed that the draft proposed changes would have a potential substantial impact on Hampshire residents and Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham and sought an input on any Joint Committee established to consider the proposals.

2. The responses made by the Committee influence and improve the delivery of Health Services in Hampshire and, in doing so, support the delivery of the Corporate Strategy aim of maximising well being.

INQUIRIES RECEIVED AND ACTION TAKEN

1. The Committee continues to receive inquiries from partner organisations and County Councillors. At the last meeting Members were alerted to inquiries about:

Partnership Working with the Healthcare Commission - An event had been held on 1 March 2007 which had been a great success and those who had attended had provided a valuable contribution to the debate.

The future of Community Hospitals - The Committee had received updates on Lymington Hospital, Fenwick Hospital, Lyndhurst and Chase Hospital, Petersfield.

The Use of Haslar Hospital - The Committee had been updated on the current use of Haslar Hospital following the departure of the Ministry of Defence on 30 March 2007. Opportunities were being investigated by the Hampshire Primary Care Trust for the future use of the hospital.

Other inquiries included Surrey and Borders NHS Trust foundation status application, the redevelopment of Homefield House Basingstoke into a 60 bed home for older people with mental health needs, the Briarwood Rehabilitation Unit , Cove becoming Briarwood Recovery and Rehabilitation Service and Hampshire Primary Care Trust's proposals for the anticipated surge in smokers wanting to quit when the national ban comes into force on 1 July 2007.
