1 Summary and purpose
1.1 Since the committee has been exercising its overview and scrutiny functions, Members have been taking an overview at committee meetings of a variety of issues relevant to the committee's terms of reference, and identifying possible topics for scrutiny. In addition, there has been the opportunity for matters for pre scrutiny to be identified.
1.2 At the meeting of the Select Committee held on 22 November 2006, Members identified a range of specific topics for possible inclusion in the Committee's scrutiny review work programme for the coming year.
1.3 At the Select Committee meeting held 4 April 2007 Members agreed on two of those topics for full scrutiny during the following twelve months: Alcohol services and the Third Sector.
1.4 To support the Safe and Healthy People Select Committee in its overview and scrutiny work, a work programme has been developed, attached as Appendix A, to describe what is to be carried out in the coming year, to act as a reference for Members as well as a live record of that work.
2 Recommendation
2.1 That the committee adopts the work programme, and uses it to record additional work, as well as reviewing progress during the year.
