1 Summary

Applications for grant aid have been received from people living in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas and personal development projects. Applicants' details are as follows:-

1.1 Clare McAvinchey, Hook

Clare McAvinchey of Hook has been awarded a place at the 4th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations in New York which is being held between 12 and 15 August this year. The cost of attending the conference is £340 and the flights are an additional £450. Grants totalling £650 have already been obtained from Alton College and The Gordon Foundation.

Clare, a former Chairman of the Hampshire County Youth Council, is currently studying Geography, Politics and Economics at the University of Durham.

Recommendation:

1.2 Mrs Dixson, Whitchurch

Mrs Dixson from Whitchurch has been selected to represent Great Britain in the forthcoming World Tenpin Bowling Championships for the Blind being held in Sydney, Australia between 2 and 11 November 2007.

The squad of thirteen blind and partially sighted bowlers and helpers each has to raise £2,000 towards the cost of his/her kit, travel and accommodation expenses. Mrs Dixson has so far raised £1,500 towards her individual costs and is seeking a grant of £500 from the County Council.

In 2004 the British team brought back ten medals from the Championships and they all would like to improve on this in Sydney.

Recommendation: £250
