FROGMORE DAY CARE CENTRE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE, YATELEY

1 PURPOSES FOR WHICH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS SOUGHT

Frogmore Day Care Centre in Yateley has been operating for the last 25 years providing social care for its 35 elderly and infirm clients.

The Management Committee wishes to purchase an additional 16-seater minibus to enable them to pick up clients from a wider area, including Fleet, Church Crookham and Hartley Wintney and drop them off at the Day Care Centre to use its facilities.

The minibus is costing £42,380 and a deposit of £18,800 has already been paid from funds raised over the last five years.

Funds have been sought from Yateley and Blackwater Town Councils but unfortunately Yateley has declined to offer any financial support.

6 GENERAL COMMENTS

Director of Adult Services: This department has a contract with the Centre and as part of this, a sum of £12,500 goes towards servicing and diesel costs for the vehicle. This voluntary organisation provides a valuable service not only to this department but also to private clients.

Director of Environment: This department would generally not provide a grant for this purpose. Most of the grants given by this department are to organisations which operate district-wide or community transport schemes where the vehicles are available for use by a wide range of groups.

COUNTRYSIDE EDUCATION TRUST, BEAULIEU

1 PURPOSES FOR WHICH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS SOUGHT

Currently the Trust's New Forest Study Centre is the home for many of its educational activities and where the majority of its classes are taught. Unfortunately, the structures (which were both second hand when acquired) are now completely life expired and are severely dilapidated. It is now felt that a replacement building is overdue.

The Trust wishes to build two tree houses, the first costing £82,000 and the other (larger) £179,000 and will function as classrooms. The development will also comprise of a toilet block, Biomass boiler and office and storage facilities and will include landscaping works. Overall the cost is £654,599 with capital costs making up £555,000 of that figure. Provided funding is in place, the buildings will open in spring next year.

Of the total funding required, the Trust still needs to raise £225,299. SEEDA, the National Park Authority, the Dixon's Foundation and several other trusts have already contributed towards this project. An application has also been submitted to the Big Lottery Fund.

6 GENERAL COMMENTS

Hampshire Record Office: This is a worthwhile project deserving support. However, it should be possible to recoup all or most of the publication costs through its sales. A grant from this budget could act as an incentive to encourage local contributions/loans and underwrite any overall loss.

THE PUBLIC CATALOGUE FOUNDATION

1 PURPOSES FOR WHICH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS SOUGHT

The Public Catalogue Foundation is a registered charity set up to make paintings held in public collections more accessible. This focuses on oil and acrylic painting and provides a colour illustration and description of every painting in volumes or catalogue, usually distinguished by geographical area.

In January last year, the County Council was approached by the Foundation for a contribution towards the cost of producing two catalogues covering Hampshire, one for Hampshire and Portsmouth, the other for Southampton and the Isle of Wight. Both publications were to cost £120,000. At that time a grant of £20,000 was awarded by the County Council towards the cost of the Hampshire and Portsmouth volume.

The Foundation is still £10,000 short of the funds required and is seeking a further contribution of £5,000.

    31.01.06 - £20,000 - towards Hampshire and Portsmouth volume

5 COMMENTS OF LOCAL MEMBER

This project will cover the whole of the Hampshire area and, therefore it was not thought appropriate to seek the views of any individual Member.

6 GENERAL COMMENTS

Director of Recreation and Heritage: Without the vehicle of The Public Catalogue Foundation, making this publication would have been incredibly difficult. Hampshire is fortunate enough to own some significant and stunning pieces and for the first time these will be accessible to the public via full colour, high quality catalogues and the Foundation's website. The Hampshire volume contains over 2,400 paintings from over 46 collections, so in itself is a large publication. A further grant of £5,000 is fully supported in recognition of the significant scale of the project.
