The Committee's Work Programme

Report of the Chief Executive

Contact: Philippa Smart [email protected], ext 7336

    1 Summary and purpose

1.1 Since the committee has been exercising its overview and scrutiny functions, Members have been taking an overview at committee meetings of a variety of issues relevant to the committee's terms of reference, and identifying possible topics for scrutiny. In addition, there has been the opportunity for matters for pre scrutiny to be identified.

1.2 Of the topics identified, three short life scrutinies have been carried out, one in depth, select committee style review is underway and another is about to get underway. In addition, other subjects have been proposed and a note made to bring these forward at a future date.

1.3 To support the Environment and Transportation Select Committee in its overview and scrutiny roles, a work programme has been developed, attached as an Appendix to this Report, to describe the committees programme of work for the year 2007 - 2008, to act as a reference for Members, as well as a live record of that work.

    2 Recommendation

2.1 That the committee adopts the work programme, uses it to record additional work undertaken or identified for future action, as well as a basis on which to monitor and review progress during the year.
