1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That approval be given for a formal response to be made to West Berkshire's Freight Route Strategy based on the primary points of concern set out in paragraph 3.4 of the report.

2. Reason

2.1 This decision will protect local communities from environmental impact and excessive use of non-strategic routes for freight traffic and ensure that safety concerns are not compromised.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 The option of not responding to the consultation was rejected as this would not allow the County Council's viewpoint to be included in the consideration of the draft proposals by West Berkshire Council alongside other consultation responses.
